Renée P. Foulks is an artist/educator who exhibits her representational, realist and imaginative paintings and drawings extensively throughout the United States where her work is represented in museum, college, corporate and private collections. Solo and group shows include venues such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Delaware Art Museum, PAFA Museum of American Art, the Oglethorpe Museum of Art and galleries in New York including Hirschl and Adler Modern, Gallery Henoch, Tatistcheff and John Szoke as well as Haynes Galleries of Tennessee and Maine and F.A.N. Gallery in Philadelphia. PA. Her most recent portrait commission “Contract and Covenant,” a double portrait of President Ronald Reagan and Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill, was unveiled at The Union League of Philadelphia and installed as a gift to the nation by Dr. Josephine Templeton in the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA. Numerous Mellon Foundation grants were received throughout the years to assist with an ever evolving studio practice.
After receiving a BFA in Illustration from Moore College of Art and Design in 1980, Renée continued to study painting and drawing at Tyler School of Art, Temple University where she received an MFA in 1982. She began her teaching career upon graduation as a full-time instructor and artist-in-residence at Keystone College, LaPlume, PA. Her commitment to education includes 20 years at the University of the Arts and 34 years at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. While at the Academy, Renée served as the Drawing Department Chairperson, developer and Co-Chair of Fine Arts Illustration and Painting Chairperson - and taught at all levels of the Undergraduate, Graduate and Low Residency MFA Programs.
Renée lectures on a wide range of painting, drawing and narrative topics including "The Technical Narrative, Form Concept as Language", "Design Decisions as Content" and "Indirect Painting Strategies." As Professor Emerita from PAFA, she remains eager to work with today’s generation of visual thinkers.
